The Safety Institute was founded by Carl Potter, Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Dr. Deb Potter, both well-known experts in the area of safety leadership.

Every year in the U.S. alone, more than 4300 workers lose their lives as a result of injury and illness that occurs while doing their jobs. Tens of thousands more are injured, perhaps for a lifetime; the cost to the U.S. economy alone is $54,300,000,000 annually – that’s more than $1 billion per week. While most of us may work our entire lives without a job-related injury or illness, too many around us aren’t so fortunate. Much more can be done to educate ourselves and others in how to recognize and control hazards so that everyone can go home every day without injury or illness.

Since 1992, Carl, the CEO of Potter and Associates International, Inc. has worked with organizations to prevent workplace injuries. In 2001, his wife, Dr. Deb joined Potter and Associates International, Inc. to further the goal of preventing every workplace injury. Although this seems like an impossible task, it remains their focus every day. To reach this goal, Carl has worked with countless organizations and individuals in a variety of industries sharing his philosophy that zero injuries is an achievable goal. He frequently conducts motivational keynotes for conferences, seminars for supervisors, workshops for employees and, . Together they developed the Simply Seamless Safety® Leadership Development Process for emerging and current leaders with safety responsibility.

Carl and Dr. Deb have written numerous articles published in professional journals, trade magazines, newsletters and online safety sources to educate workers. They have written several books on preventing workplace injuries and their biweekly Safety Spot News message is read around the globe. Dr. Deb spends time conducting organization safety assessments and researching the best organizational structures for safety and how to measure their effect on preventing every workplace injury. Their work has required them to travel extensively to clients all over the U.S. and other countries.
